Lover of art, passionate, open-minded – so many adjectives to describe this
artist with a heart of gold. The day he stepped foot in a photography studio
was the day he was conquered by the possibilities which suddenly presented
themselves. He discovered the universe of fashion, where staging revealed
itself to him like to an inspired painter ready to take on the world. He is a
builder of image, a creator of stories. By his own admission, everything is
subjective. He creates an image to observe the interaction between the
clothes and the model. He favours the latter over dancers, seeking in his
photographs the essence of a face, of an expression. Each movement nds
its uniqueness in the models’ forgetting how they look, too preoccupied by
the thought of how they will land after their leaps. The singularity of each
image is to be found in this intrinsic breath of liberty. This search is further
carried on in the artist’s nude images, because he enjoys photographing
the female body and experimenting with the movements which animate it.
Some own a library full of books; Bruno’s is full of images. Photographic
contact sheets where the miniature individuality of each naked woman is
immortalised. These photographs taken throughout his life are the very
origin of the new adventure Bruno chose to undertake a year ago: photo
collage. Although under the seductive spell of this expressive technique for
a very long time, it took a magazine’s request for him to get started: feeding
off Surrealist works and German Impressionism, he was inspired by an
exposition of the English artist Linder Sterling to convince those who had
ordered a series of jewellery as a still life. The word “instinct” punctuates
his narration. “
I had no idea what I was going to do
” — he grabs his
contact sheets once again — “
it’s as if I were working with a pile of sand.
”
He takes a picture, goes through magazines, photography and sculpture
books. His heart inspires his choices as he cuts out a page and glues down
a piece of it: he creates a new image.
There once was a magician of images. He delighted, capturing the instant and creating the dance.
